Description |
This Abney Level is made from heavy brass. The coarse and fine motion screws are made from Aluminium. The tubular 'telescope' has a square cross section (18 x 18 mm), an extendable eyepiece and a horizontal wire at the target end. The main half-circle is graduated to 1 degree (from -90 degrees to + 90 degrees) and is read with a vernier graduated in five minute steps. The vernier is read through a magnifying glass. The tubular level is viewed through a 45 degree mirror on the left side of the viewing tube. It has spring loaded adjustment screws. The Semicircle also carries two auxiliary scales graduated from 0 to 100% (gradient), 100% being a 45 degree slope. |
