For precise pointing, the rod carries a white cone at the top, pointing downwards. This cone can be illuminated by the light bulb (with colour filters deactivated). The rod carries a cylindrical battery compartment at the bottom (for one D-cell battery) and an on/off switch. The centring cylinder at the bottom fits into the centring device on top of the bridge. This bridge for the target rod can be attached to the standards of the Th2 theodolite with two screws.
