Micometer Theodolite by Cooke, Troughton & Simms

Description

This instrument is a theodolite with micrometer screws attached to the circle reading system for improved precision in the reading of the horizontal and vertical circles. It is a 2 second first-order theodolite and is typically used for primary and secondary triangulations, traversing and geodetic astronomy.

The degrees and minutes are read directly off the horizontal and vertical circles. The micrometer screws are attached adjacent to the magnifying eyepieces of the circles. Both the horizontal and vertical circles are enclosed to prevent damage from dust and grime.

In addition to the micrometer system, this instrument also consists of the typical components of any vernier theodolite. These components are: (1) a levelling head which supports the main working parts of the instrument and is capable of being screwed onto a tripod, (2) a lower circular horizontal metal plate with a silver vernier graduation, (3) an upper circular horizontal plate, (4) a vertical circle with vernier graduations and (5) a telescope with the altitude bubble attached beside the vertical circle.
